Phenix City Early Learning Center
Where Four Year Olds LOVE to Grow and Learn
The Phenix City Early Learning Center is a FREE, public education Pre-Kindergarten program that is governed by the Phenix City Board of Education and the Alabama Office of School Readiness, Early Childhood Education Division. The Center serves 162 students, presently, and all classes are lead by Certified Early Childhood Education teachers. The teaching assistants hold Child Development Associates Certification or an Associate Degree in Early Childhood Education. The teacher/pupil ratio is 9:1; therefore, all students receive one-on-one instruction based on their individual needs. Our theme this year is: "Pre-K is a HOOT!" We work extremely hard to make learning engaging, developmentally appropriate, and FUN!

Curriculum
We feel that children should be exposed to all aspects of learning through exploration as the main component. Children are introduced to STEM, Science, Technology, Engineering and Math through purposeful play. Lessons are developed based on student interests. Our students are allowed to learn through activities that develop social, emotion, and critical problem solving skills. Our activities are child-centered and developmentally appropriate to meet the needs of each and every student. The Teaching Strategies Gold Assessment Instrument is used to monitor student progress.

Activities
We strive hard to include all stakeholders in the successes of our students. This is achieved by offering family involvement activities such as: Family Math Nights, Fall Festivals, Parental Volunteer Hours, and the Parent/Teacher Organization.

Exploration
We believe that a language rich environment encourages students to be inquisitive about the formation of words. By supplying them with print throughout the classroom, they become more excited about discovering language.
